I'll be presenting at SC5 next July, which will affect this podcast a bit. I also comment on SOPA and PIPA.
The Scooby Gang is both a fighting team and a surrogate family. I reflect on the interplay between these two aspects.
The Scooby Gang seems to be a utopian community of shared feelings, if not shared property. I consider what this means for the characters and the audience.
Does the suppression of language in Hush make any statement about language itself?
The Vampire can be used to represent relational aggression. I give two examples from the Buffyverse.
I don't agree with Jana Riess, who says BtVS is a "a pastiche of different kinds of Buddhisms," but I do think it's helpful if we know what Buddhist mythology is like.
Are there profound ideas in BtVS? I don't think so, but there is one idea in BtVS that deserves some thought.
BtVS is best understood as a story about growing up. In that context, the secret identity finally makes sense.
Does it make sense to speak of Buffy and Buddhism Together? Some people do that. I don't.
Finishing up (almost) my discussion of Buffy's secret identity, I consider the cases, just when, how and from whom Buffy hides her secret Slayer life, and draw some conclusions that might be of interest.
